FinCoNet/OECD Joint Seminar on Developments in Central Bank Digital Currencies and Issues for Consumers

This Seminar, co-hosted by FinCoNet and the G20/OECD Task Force on Financial Consumer Protection discussed the developments in Central Bank Digital Currencies and explore the issues for consumers.

The first session of the Seminar commenced with a keynote speech delivered by Dr. Maria Demertzis, Senior Fellow at Bruegel and Professor of Economic Policy at the School of Transnational Governance at the European University Institute in Florence, followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Mr. Carmine Di Noia, Director for Financial and Enterprise Affairs, OECD, on the issues, risks and opportunities of CBDCs for consumers.

The second session, moderated by Mr. Miles Larbey, Head of Financial Consumer Protection, Education & Inclusion Unit, provided insights into the latest thinking and activity regarding the development of Central Bank Digital Currencies in a number of different jurisdictions, including policy and practical considerations relating to the adoption and use by the public.
