FinCoNet Open Meeting 2016

22 April 2016, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

The FinCoNet Open Meeting was hosted by The Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on 22 April 2016 (morning session), and was held back to back with the OECD/INFE bi-annual meeting.

Objective

The FinCoNet Open meeting provided an opportunity for supervisors to learn about the work of this international forum (the aim of which is to promote sound market conduct and enhance consumer protection through efficient and effective financial market conduct supervision) and to gain useful insights on the benefits of membership through the value of sharing information and knowledge on supervisory tools and best practices.

Programme

The meeting was opened by Mr. Bernard Sheridan, FinCoNet Chair, who made a keynote speech, introducing FinCoNet and highlighting the added value gained from membership.

This was followed by a presentation and discussion of the work of the three FinCoNet Standing Committees on supervisory tools, sales incentives and responsible lending and mobile and online payments.

The final session was an in-depth discussion on future challenges of consumer protection in an international context providing delegates with the opportunity to engage and raise particular supervisory issues; hear how other countries and FinCoNet Members have addressed such challenges; and to network with other supervisory bodies.
